Join AHA and Duncan Library friends on Zoom for the Third Wednesday Book Club. This month’s selection is Mona’s Eyes by Thomas Schlesser.
The club reads a wide variety of books selected by mutual agreement among the membership. The group enjoys both fiction and nonfiction and strives to alternate between the two genres.
The person who suggests the book will lead the discussion of the book.

Join AHA friends for another fun evening at Aldo’s Italian Kitchen, located at 2850 Eisenhower Avenue. Aldo’s serves pizza, pasta, salads, sandwiches, and various antipasti, all very reasonably priced. Beer, wine and soft drinks are available. Sign up now and join the group. It’s always a great time!
The restaurant is behind the office building that faces Eisenhower; access is via a service road behind the building. Parking is free and unrestricted after 5 p.m.

AHA volunteer, Richmond Bowen, and HITT Contracting have again volunteered to pick up items for donations, recycling, or trash from AHA members’ homes. Volunteers will come to your home on June 20th (between 9am-2pm). Reach out to the office to let us know your preferred time for pickup.
- What items will you take? Clothing or household items; inoperable electronics; broken cumbersome items; and recyclable papers.
- Are there items you will not take? Furniture; paper with personal data (we won’t have a shredder).
- Can I get a tax receipt for my donated items? I am sorry, we cannot offer tax receipt.
- What about waste materials? Our team will consider these items on a case-by-case basis.
- How do I prepare? Collect your items and be ready for pick up. If you have multiple items, please place them in boxes if you are able. HITT volunteers will come to your home and take your items away.
- How will I know when you will arrive? We will schedule pick-ups by appointment. We will also call you when we are on our way to your residence so you’ll know when to expect us.

Morning Brew will take place at Paris Baguette (4616 Kenmore Ave, Alexandria, VA 22304).
The purpose of the Brew is to provide a welcoming table in a local coffee shop where both new and “seasoned” AHA members can stop by and just get to know one another better. Anyone is welcome to attend, including prospective new members. We do request that you register on the AHA Hub so we reserve enough seats.

Come try out slow flow mat yoga!
When: Tuesday mornings, 9:30-10:30.
Where: Alexandria House rooftop entertainment room (The View)
Bring: a yoga mat. Optional props: a yoga strap (or dog leash, towel, old tie,) yoga blocks, water bottle
Your instructor: Virginia Kalish, MD, retired geriatrician/family medicine doctor and certified yoga instructor
Cost: $15.00/month (paid directly to the instructor)
By paying the monthly fee you will have a spot in the class for the entire month.

This class focuses on flexibility, balance, core strength, and well-being. Using a chair and other props, students will challenge themselves with yoga flow in the chair as well as standing poses beside a chair. The teacher will offer modifications for students to individualize their practice based on their personal abilities. Your instructor is Virginia Kalish, MD, retired geriatrician/family medicine doctor and certified yoga instructor.
Fee: $15/month, (payable by check or Venmo to Virginia Kalish)
Classes will be held every Tuesday at 11am unless there is a cancellation due to vacation, illness, weather, etc. This will result in 2-5 classes per month ($3.00-7.50 per class – still a bargain!) Virginia will ensure that students are aware of class cancellations.

Synergy HomeCare is partnering with AHA and Mount Vernon At Home (MVAH) to host “Alexandria Commemorates America250: Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness” to celebrate the United States of America’s 250th birthday.
Liz Williams, Deputy Director of the Office of Historic Alexandria, will speak about Alexandria’ unique role in the birth of our nation.
