First “Matter of Balance” Class a Success
The inaugural “Matter of Balance” class, co-sponsored by AHA and the City of Alexandria, has wrapped up, and plans are already afoot to offer the class again in the Spring 2018. Instructors Chriss Nielsen and Babs Waters led the class of a dozen participants through 8 sessions combining classroom instruction with stretch and balance exercises. The goals of the program are to improve balance, reduce falls, and identify tripping risks in the home and out in the community. ,
Also key within the instruction was empowering participants to make more informed assessments of their environment and determine whether safety risks need to be addressed.
Alexandria Mayor Allison Silberberg visited the final class of the session to congratulate the “graduates” and learn more about the program. She is pictured here with Cisco, who will facilitate the class in Spanish in the Spring.
Watch for notices for the next Matter of Balance classes!
