Strategies for Addressing Solo Aging, Social Isolation and Mental Health for Seniors

Date/Time
Date(s) - 02/19/2025
1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Location
Beatley Library

“Solo aging” has gained a lot of attention as more and more Baby Boomers age and find themselves living alone. AHA and Senior Services of Alexandria (SSA) will co-host the discussion Strategies for Addressing Solo Aging, Social Isolation and Mental Health for Seniors at Beatley Library on Wednesday, February 19, 1-2:30pm. We will hear from Steve Gurney, president of ProAging Network, who hosts a multitude of webinars on Solo Aging topics. (Steve has found Solo Aging presentations to be the most widely attended webinars around the region.) Longtime social worker at the City’s Aging and Adult Services, Rhonda Williams, will help to distinguish real depression that may need intervention from other anxieties that can come from not having a strong support system. (Depression is not an inevitable part of aging!) Finally, we’ll hear from two individuals, each of whom became a solo ager when their life circumstances suddenly changed. Please register through SSA so we’ll know how many attendees to expect: events@seniorservicesalex.org or call (703) 836 4414 ext. 110. This event is open to the public.
