Meet at Alexandria House at 9 a.m. and carpool.  Tour starts at 10 a.m. We may lunch at Indigo Landing after the tour.

Fee is $10 per person.

Heurich House Museum was built in 1892-4 of poured concrete and reinforced steel by a German immigrant, local brewer and philanthropist, Christian Heurich.  It is also the city’s first fireproof house.  Heurich was Washington’s second largest landowner and the largest private employer in the nation’s capital.

As the world’s oldest brewer, Heurich ran the Christian Heurich Brewing Company until his death at 102 years of age.  A visit to the “Brewmaster’s Castle” is a visit back in time to the late 19th Century when the Heurich family was in residence in Washington’s premiere residential neighborhood, DuPont Circle.  It is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Large tote bags, purses, and backpacks are not permitted on the tour.  Bags may be left in the museum’s coatroom.  No food or drink is permitted.  No photography is allowed during the tour.
