Tom Kerns is founding principal of Kerns Group Architects.  This is its 40th year in practice.  The firm has designed over 100 churches, including the significant renovations for St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Alexandria and Holy Trinity Chapel at Georgetown.  They have received over 60 American Institute of Architects (AIA) design awards including the AIA Virginia Firm Award in 2001.

Tom was inducted into the AIA College of Fellows in 1989, and received the Noland Award in 2007, the highest award given to an individual architect in Virginia.  He has served on the vestry several times at Immanuel Church on the Hill in Alexandria.

Designing a new Episcopal Cathedral to replace the one destroyed in the massive 2010 earthquake in Haiti has already begun, and will be a multi-year project.
