The movie group has rich discussions on the movies selected each month by facilitator Barbara Brennan. This month’s movies are both based on true stories. Woman in Gold is available on Netflix and Thirteen Lives is available on Amazon Prime Video. Join the group and be a part of the fun!

WOMAN IN GOLD (2015) – Awards
Maria Altmann, an elderly Jewish refugee living in Cheviot Hills, Los Angeles, who, together with her young lawyer, Randy Schoenberg, fought the government of Austria for almost a decade to reclaim Gustav Klimt’s iconic painting of her aunt Adele Bloch-Bauer which was stolen from her relatives by the Nazis in Vienna just prior to World War II. Altmann took her legal battle all the way to the Supreme Court of the United States, which ruled on the case Republic of Austria v. Altmann (2004).
Starring: Helen Mirren, Ryan Reynolds, Katie Holmes

THIRTEEN LIVES (2022) – Awards
Thirteen Lives is based on the Tham Luang cave rescue where a group of young boys and their soccer coach are trapped in a system of underground caves that are flooding.
The film is directed and produced by Ron Howard, from a screenplay written by William Nicholson. The film stars Viggo Mortensen, Colin Farrell, Joel Edgerton, and Tom Bateman.
