After studying the data results from the 2022 AHA Member Experience Survey, the AHA Board created a Core Planning Committee to determine what most needed to be addressed. Three goals were identified and then teams of both AHA members and volunteers were named to produce strategies to address these goals. Find out more specifics about the process in the “Getting Member Input – How are We Doing?” article in the newsletter.

A group of AHA members and volunteers are starting up a new program called “Grief Support: A Journey of Many Roads.” Are you interested in seeing other additional new programs? June Newsletter is Hot Off the Press!

Front page article highlights AHA’s 12 year anniversary celebration on May 25. The June calendar includes events with special guest speakers – be sure to check out the June calendar and the Program and Community Notes for details. AHA will begin an informal, in-person bereavement support group soon and would like to know if you are interested in joining the group. Details are shared in the article on page three. AHA Celebrates 12 Years of Service

Nearly fifty AHA members, staff and volunteers gathered on May 25 to celebrate AHA’s 12 year anniversary. The celebration began with AHA director Cele Garrett sharing a video of the three founders of AHA – Dick Moose, Judith Jones and Ernie Lehmann. Cele talked about the accomplishments that AHA has made and recognized and thanked Ernie Lehmann in the audience. AHA membership manager Loretta Darst recognized the members and volunteers and talked about the special relationships that develop between them. The celebration ended with everyone toasting a glass of bubbly to the wonderful community that AHA serves.

We close out April with a successful Spring2ACTion campaign. Thank you to each and every one who contributed and to all of you who support us throughout the year. AHA Member Alan Dinsmore Appointed to Commission on Aging

Congratulations to Alan Dinsmore for being recently appointed by City Council to a term on the Commission on Aging. The COA advocates for the needs of older residents in Alexandria and advances programs and services that address the needs of older Alexandrians, especially for (but not exclusively) low-income residents. Alan is an excellent choice to be on the Commission. He is actively involved in our AHA community, serving on the AHA Member Services Committee and volunteering for transportation needs. Alan is known for not only bringing AHA members to medical appointments, but also to social events. Join us in congratulating Alan.

April Newsletter is Hot off the Press!

Lots of exciting news in April’s newsletter! AHA’s annual fundraising campaign is on April 26. Jane King rejoins the AHA Board as secretary, bringing her experience from previously serving terms as board chair and secretary. We welcome and celebrate two new volunteers. AHA office co-manager Tegan Cohen closes out her performances at Little Theatre of Alexandria after drawing large audiences of AHA members, volunteers and friends. StrongerMemory™ Starts New Session on April 5

AHA is pleased to bring back StrongerMemory™ beginning on Wednesday, April 5 at 3pm. Participants will meet virtually every Wednesday until June 21, 2023 with AHA volunteer Roberta McGregor again facilitating the program. This is a Zoom program limited to members only. If you missed the opportunity to join the series we offered in 2022, join us now. AHA! March Newsletter is available!

AHA remembers two members: Lenore Holm and Susan Bell. AHA member Brenda Bloch-Young shares the poem she created using AI. Our calendar is full with both in-person and Zoom events.
